UNAM Press Overview

Established in 2011, the University of Namibia Press provides ethical, high-quality publication of research and literature.  All our books are peer reviewed following international best practice to position them within current academic trends and standards. We engage closely with authors to develop capacity and improve manuscripts, and employ professional copy-editing, book design and printing services for a superior academic product.

Vision
To be the leading publisher of scholarly research, innovation, and literature in Namibia

 Mission
Our mission is to act as a catalyst for intellectual discourse through scholarly publication by providing opportunities for Namibian researchers to publish their work nationally, and for international scholars to publish local editions of their research on Namibian topics.

Come to us if you have a manuscript

  • on new research on Namibia or the southern African region;
  • with Namibian content suitable for a university course;
  • which articulates national values and culture, including indigenous knowledge and languages;
  • which contributes to policy debates or development strategies in areas of national significance

Core functions
UNAM Press embraces the University’s core values of professionalism, equity, integrity, and accountability as far as these relate to publishing. The Press plays a role in fulfilling the vision and mission of the University as defined in its key statements by:

  1. Publishing and disseminating the results of the University’s research across a broad spectrum of real-world problems to contribute to nation-building.
  2. Serving as a repository for the articulation, development, and preservation of national values and culture through the promotion of Namibian content, including indigenous languages.
  3. Engaging with society in the creation and sharing of knowledge.
  4. Becoming a treasure-house of knowledge at the service of national development.
  5. Providing professional academic publishing services attractive to both national and international scholars on Namibian topics.
  6. Fostering partnerships with international academic presses to improve international relations.
  7. Disseminating publications nationally and internationally to improve the University’s ranking.

Our publishing programme is guided by the UNAM Press Policy approved by Senate on 23 September 2023.

An Editorial Board works with the UNAM Press unit to implement policy and approve or reject publication proposals and manuscripts. Submissions go through initial evaluation by the Publisher and Editorial Board members, and selected manuscripts of interest are sent for double-blind peer-review.

UNAM Press engages critically with content and language, design and technology, to ensure that its publications are of high academic, editorial, and production quality.
