The department of Education in Languages, Humanities and Commerce is situated in the Faculty of Education. In the English and Namibian languages section, the department offers undergraduate modules in Grammar (Phonetics, phonology, morphology and orthography), Listening and Speaking, Youth literature, Reading and Writing, Advanced Grammar and Adult literature.
The Social Science section offers modules in History and Geography, Religious and Moral Education as well as Arts in Education. The mission of the department is to prepare university students for a career in Education by providing high-quality training and scholarship in the areas of languages, Social Sciences (History, Geography and Arts) and Commerce. The department is also involved in several research projects, focusing interalia on teachers' challenges in the English as a Second language, teacher-learner interaction in the ESL classroom, challenges teachers face in teaching Arts effectively. English-Namibian language code switching, and aspects of English syntax.
