Policy and Practice for Urban Water Security: case studies from Africa and around the world
Prof. Chad Staddon
Professor of Resource Economics and Policy at UWE, Bristol Security Network
Chad Staddon is Professor of Resource Economics and Policy at UWE, Bristol and founder-director of the International Water Security Network. In the course of his 20 year career he has studied water services in Canada, the US, the UK and many European countries. He has published more than 50 scientific papers and books, given more than 100 public lectures and is frequently called upon to comment on government policy. His current research interests lie in the area of better understanding the nature and drivers of urban water demand and the potential for social and economic instruments to drive conservation efforts. Since 2010 Chad has led a programme of water services development and research in East Africa called the “UWE Africa Water Security Programme”.
In addition to his UWE, Bristol post, Chad also maintains professional affiliations with the Global Research Institute at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and the School for Geography and Development at the University of Arizona. He is also an active member of the International Water Resources Association, the Royal Geographical Society and sits on the southwest regional committee for the Chartered Institute for Water and Environmental Management, and the Bristol Water Plc Local Engagement Forum.

Earl Lewis is a researcher at the University of Namibia, Multidisciplinary Research Centre, Life Science Division. Previous works include assessing ecosystem health of rivers in a National Park in Russia. He is currently researching methods on how to improve water quality and sanitation in rural areas in Namibia.
